Ignaz von Born (1742–1791). Mineralogist, Curator of the Austrian Imperial Natural History Collection, which later became the Vienna Natural History Museum. Master of the Chair of the "Zur wahren Eintracht" (To True Harmony) Masonic Lodge, 1782–1785.
Born’s discussions of ancient Egyptian history (based primarily on Greek sources, since Egyptian hieroglyphs were still yet to be deciphered at the time) found enthusiastic audiences in masonic lodges and beyond. His work also helped to popularise "Egyptian" as a synonym for the foreign and exotic (one that was also used to describe fashionable accessories) among a broad section of the population.
