Events

The Österreichische Mediathek offers various event formats to exchange ideas and network with different target groups.
We hold annual Archive Talks with colleagues from other cultural institutions, invite people to an „Archivfrühstück“ at the Österreichische Mediathek every six months to discuss recordings from our holdings with invited experts and - also every six months - provide information online about the technical background to our work in our Lunch Lecture.
In addition, we regularly offer free archive tours for anyone interested in taking a look behind the scenes of our work.

The "Archivfrühstück"

Twice a year, the Österreichische Mediathek invites media experts to discuss the preservation of our audiovisual past with us, over coffee, tea and croissants, and on the basis of selected recordings from our archives. The events are open to all interested parties, but due to limited space, we kindly ask you to register in advance.

Archive Talks

Every year, we meet with national and international experts from other cultural heritage institutions to discuss key topics in media archiving in an informal setting. Archive talks are designed as an invitation-only format with a limited number of participants.

Lunch Lectures

Staff from the Österreichische Mediathek provide online information about the technical, organisational, theoretical and practical background to our work. The events are open to anyone interested and offer basic information for collections and institutions with media holdings. They are aimed at collectors and those responsible for libraries, archives and museums who are involved in the preservation and management of digital audiovisual collections.

Tour through the Österreichische Mediathek

During a 90-minute tour, you will get to know different areas of the Austrian Mediathek, learn about the history of our institution and the history of sound and video recording, get to know the rooms and staff of a media archive, and receive vivid background information on the digitisation and long-term archiving of audiovisual media sources.
