Berta Förster-Lauterer (b. 11 January 1869, Prague, Czech Republic; d. 9 April 1936, Prague), soprano.
Mahler already knew Berta Förster-Lauterer from his time as Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater (City Theatre) in Hamburg, as the Hamburg State Opera was then known. Förster-Lauterer was part of the Vienna Court Opera ensemble from 1901 onwards. She sang the part of Lisa in the first performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades under Mahler (alongside Erik Schmedes as Hermann) on 9 December 1902, and also played Frasquita in the first performance of Hugo Wolf’s Corregidor on 18 February 1904, again under Mahler’s direction.
