The next Archive Talk will take place in May 2025.
Audio and video content from social media platforms is playing an increasingly important role in everyday media life. However, some questions remain unanswered from an archival point of view: Why should social media content be collected? Who collects this content? How can social media content be preserved? Together with several cultural heritage institutions, the Mediathek's 2023 Archive Talks series addressed the topic of ‘social media in the archive’ in the context of the three panels Collecting, Using and Producing.
The 2023 Archive Talks took place on 1 June 2023 in the Festsaal of the Technisches Museum Wien.
Representatives of various Austrian cultural and memory institutions and cultural scientists spent a day discussing the current challenges of working with audiovisual archive and collection content.
In four rounds of talks, the spectrum of media-archival fields of activity was explored along the opposing pairs of knowledge - not knowing, telling - not telling, collecting - not collecting, public - not public.
