    Information

    Inhalt

On September 12, 1948, the day before his 74th birthday, Arnold Schönberg participated in a radio interview by the station KFWB-980 (Warner Brothers) in Los Angeles. A new series was launched with programs that were dedicated to playing contemporary chamber music and were to start with Schönberg’s works. Established in 1925, the station enjoyed great popularity especially among followers of sophisticated light music.
In an article headlined “Contemporary Chamber Music Series to Begin,” the Los Angeles Times informed its readers on September 12, 1948: “A weekly half-hour radio program of contemporary chamber music will begin today with compositions of Arnold Schoenberg over Station KFWB–980 on the air – at 3 p.m. Mr. Schoenberg will give a short talk and the Koldofsky Trio will play his String Trio and Suzanne Coray will sing two songs.”
The program included Schönberg’s String Trio op. 45 (Koldofsky Trio) and Traumleben op. 6/1 (Suzanne Coray/Leonard Stein), as well as the Piano Piece op. 33A performed by Leonard Stein. Preparations for the musical part of the broadcast were supervised by the composer, which allows a historically documented approach to the performance. (Text: Arnold Schönberg Center)
